Final Draft: New Screenwriting Software
The Department of Communication and Media Culture at Saint Peter’s University strives to prepare students for careers in media and related fields through courses that explore practical, ethical, creative and research perspectives. Some students are headed for film, television and visual journalism careers in which a familiarity with the fundamentals of plot structure, professional standards and proper format is essential.
The Screenwriting Courses
Screenwriting courses have been offered here at Saint Peter’s since 2005. In these courses, students experience the same creative process as a professional screenwriter moving through the various levels of a typical Hollywood "step" deal. They learn the fundamentals of good authorship: logline, pitch, treatment, plot construction, logical exposition and character definition, to name just a few.
Since a key element in learning industry-accepted standards is to utilize professional tools, Saint Peter’s must acquire a new, updated screenwriting software program called Final Draft.
Final Draft has been Hollywood’s #1 screenwriting software for more than 30 years. With this program, we will be able to provide a dynamic, industry-standard tool for all students who aspire to translate their creativity to the big screen.
Replacing our current screenwriting software with Final Draft will cost $5,000. This is an investment in the future; an important, concrete way to give back to the department and assist students.
We believe you can help make that happen. All we need are 500 donors at $10 each, 200 donors at $25 each or 100 donors at $50 each in order to reach our goal. Won’t you help?
And who knows? Perhaps you will be helping future Oscar winners to accomplish their goals and fulfill their dreams!
